Three Bands to Haunt the Stage at Blue Canary Records

Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays, so Blue Canary Records decided to treat us to an early celebration! On October 25th at 7 pm, bands No Yeah, The Creature Preachers and Nodders will transform the shop’s concert space into a festive venue. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes since there will be a contest with exciting prizes for the best outfits. The cover charge is $10 and doors are expected to open at 6 pm. Get ready for the spooky atmosphere by letting us introduce you to the bands taking over Blue Canary this Friday along with some of their favorite Halloween tunes.

No Yeah

First up is No Yeah featuring Ryan on bass, Zack on drums, and Matt on guitar. Matt and Zack are Columbus natives while Ryan grew up in Fort Lauderdale and moved here in 2004. Their music is packed with complicated, engaging beats and intricate chord structures. You won’t catch half of the musical complexities in just one listen - you’ll want to focus on a different instrument during each replay. The time signatures and tempos are anything but simple; they vary and even shift within a single song. No Yeah’s mathy tracks keep you hooked, filling you with anticipation and making you wish each song was just a little longer so you could hear what else they’ll throw your way.

The band’s fall picks include their fellow Blue Canary performers, The Creature Preachers, and Medians, their friends from Tallahassee. The trio is preparing for a busy upcoming schedule starting on October 26th as a part of the Plughouse’s “Fallout Festival” and an appearance at Silvan Guitars shortly after on November 7th. There are several opportunities to see No Yeah around Columbus before the end of the year!

The Creature Preachers

If you’re searching for a band that embodies the spirit of Halloween while riding the waves of surf rock, The Creature Preachers from Warner Robins, GA, should be at the top of your list. The group consists of Greg Regular on guitar and vocals, Overkill Will on bass, Gage the Mage on keys and vocals, and Drum Phil on drums. Together, they create melodies that is as entertaining as it is spine-chilling, making them a must-see for surf music lovers and Halloween enthusiasts alike.

The sound of their reverb-heavy guitars is almost hypnotic. It’s as if you’re underwater while flashing images of classic horror film monsters conjure up in your mind. While surf rock is often viewed as a genre of the past, The Creature Preachers demonstrate that it will always have a place in the music world.

They released a digital version of their album Necro A Go-Go on all streaming services last October and plan to offer physical copies very soon. All eight tracks from the album, including “Haunted Swamp” and “Zombie Tsunami”, are perfect additions to your Halloween party playlist. As for the group’s top choices this season, they’ve been intensely impacted by The Ghastly Ones, and legends like Misfits and Ghost

The Blue Canary event is their year-end show, so be sure to catch them before their brief break to work on new projects!

Nodders

Last but not least, let’s shine a light on Nodders. They are a newer band rooted in Columbus, GA. They draw inspiration from emo and post-hardcore scenes of the late 90s and early 2000s, blending jazz, Latin, and punk influences into their modern alt-rock sound. The Nodders are comprised of four members: Manny Santos on drums, Chandler Kelly on bass, Noah Herrera on lead guitar and Isaac Sanchez on vocals and rhythmic guitar.

Although each instrumentalist has settled here at different stages of life, they aim to put Columbus on the musical map. They released a demo in May with tracks titled “Kiss” and “Glass House”, which are available for streaming. Every one of their songs captures a raw intensity that resonates with audiences. This authenticity is what draws people into hard-hitting themes the ensemble decides to explore.

Stay updated on where they’ll perform next by following  Nodders on Instagram. In the meantime, Isaac recommends checking out new releases by Show Me the Body (similar to Nodders’ genre), Julie, and King Krule—great tunes for carving or smashing pumpkins!

This event is for all ages, making it a fantastic way to listen to some fresh or familiar music with friends and family. Add these bands and their recommendations to your Halloween playlist and get ready for a night filled with lighthearted terrors. See you at Blue Canary!
