'A Song of Columbus' by Gail B. Greenblatt

By the shores of Chattahoochee in the county of Muscogee

Lies a busy,,vibrant city,,It's the city of Columbus.

On the bank there stands Synovus,,looking west to Alabama.

Through the glist'ning rippled water, orange kayaks smoothly gliding.

There an egret gently soaring, turtles basking in the sunlight.

Here is mighty transformation, here are fascinating changes.

No more textile mills to work in, lofts and condos in their spaces.

Fieldcrest Cannon on the corner, changed to giant Total Systems.

No more sheets and pillow cases; finance superseding slumber.

And the mighty Chattahoochee which once gave the mills their power

Now is downsized for the kayaks..Whither with white water rafting?

Zipline goes to Phenix City,, treetops shadow Oxbow Meadows.

Uptown now a college campus, Bartlett Center,, School of Nursing.

Schwob School offers chamber music, River Center brings us Broadway.

Springer keeps the footlights glowing. Upstairs Loft has jazz on weekends.

Liberal arts can sooth the senses,,so can outdoor ethnic dining

Tacos,,Thai or pizza slices,,croissants with a cappuccino...

Market Days Uptown on Broadway bring out merchandise eclectic:

Scented candles, aloe vera, fig trees, baby blue hydrangeas.

Pale green eggs from cheerful chickens, pine cone flowers, beads and baubles.

This a favorite destination, pleasing folks throughout the valley.

So it is with fair Columbus nestled by the Chattahoochee

Keeping its magnolia memories, melding past and present history.
